BACK TO THE ROOTS : ARUNACHAL GETS FIRST INDIGENOUS SYSTEM SCHOOL

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on March 20 inaugurated the state’s first Formal Indigenous Language and Knowledge System School at Rang Village in East Kameng district.

Union minister of sports Kiren Rijiju was among the host of dignitaries who attended the inauguration.

This school, which is the first-of-its-kind in the state, is called 'Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko and CM Khandu in his inauguration address dedicated the school to the people of the state.

The school has been modelled on the ancient Gurukul system of education and this school will help to preserve and promote the indigenous dialect, culture and traditions of the state.

'Nyubu’ means priest, ‘Nyvgam’ means person having wisdom and knowledge and ‘Yerko’ means a learning institution.

Furthermore, Khandu applauded the initiative taken by Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust and Pai Dawe for his contribution for donating land to this Gurukul-like institution.

On being asked about the infrastructure of the school, Khandu mentioned that traditional houses will be preferred rather than following the concrete buildings.

“We need not have RCC buildings except for teacher’s quarters. Let the kids learn in an environment that is their culture.” he advised.

Khandu stated that his government is committed to preserve and promote indigenous culture of the land. Thereby, his initiative for the establishment of Department of Indigenous Affairs, has earned him praises from the citizens of the state and even the neighbouring ones.
