By prolonging seatsharing talks, the Congress claims it pulled offa major coup
Led by the Congress, opposi-tion parties in Telangana have carried out a covert pre-poll operation. After squabbling over seat sharing for weeks, they appeared to have reached an agreement on November 22, the last day for withdrawing nominations for the assembly polls. The disputes, sources said, were part of a plan to influence media coverage and prompt the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi to play into the opposition’s hands.
Parties opposed to the TRS had been coming closer since early this year. As opposition leaders began sharing the dais at protests against Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, the writing on the wall became clear: The Congress, the CPI and the Telangana Jana Samithi would soon join hands against KCR.
Two months ago, the Telugu Desam Party also came on board. Together, the four parties formed a coalition called the People’s Front to take on the TRS.
