Grinnelly Goal Earns IMPS First Point On League Return

Chairboys surrender half-time lead as newcomers get off the mark.

LINCOLN had to learn fast in their first match back in the Football League after their promotion last season, but Josh Ginnelly’s equaliser earned a deserved point at Wycombe.

If there was any doubt beforehand, the Imps will know they can’t afford to switch off in the manner that they did after opening the scoring, when they let in two sloppy goals from set-pieces.

But given how well they performed against opposition from higher levels than League Two in the last campaign, they were never going to be overawed.

In the end, their manager Danny Cowley felt that his side had successfully come through the first of what is sure to be many tough tests in what is their first season in the fourth tier in six years.

Cowley, making his own EFL debut, said: “We’ve seen how tough it is; you look at the level we played today and compare it to the level we played last year it’s absolutely miles apart.

“If we would have played that well in the National League last year we’d have won 3-0, so we’re under no illusions how tough it’s going to be.
