“I was a welfare manager, that’s the reality,” said the former Burton Albion, York City and England C midfielder.
“By the end, it had nothing to do with football. I was just trying to lift spirits and maintain focus and motivation. But fair play to the lads. They put a shift in during what were tough circumstances.
“You’re adapting training because it’s constantly postponed. Then you have one of the worst winters going, when it falls with snow three times.
“We had games getting called off on a Friday afternoon after you’ve prepared all week. Then you go to a rearranged fixture on the Tuesday that you didn’t expect to play.
