Harry Gration, who has spent 42 years in broadcasting, leaves Leeds-based Look North next week.
The 69-year-old host was allowed to reveal he was retiring after talks with bosses but said he was “incredibly sad – I’ve been very emotional”.
Insiders say Gration’s salary tops £100,000. His former co-star Christa Ackroyd received £177,000 for the 30-minute evening show before losing her job in 2013, making them the country’s highest-paid news presenting team.
