Cops May Quiz Rose

Evil killer Rose West could be questioned in jail over missing Mary Bastholm, the detective chief inspector leading the search for the teenager’s body has revealed.

DCI John Turner yesterday sat down with The Mirror and said Rose would be quizzed if significant new lines of inquiry lead anywhere.

It came after officers searching the Clean Plate cafe in Gloucester for the remains of Mary – a suspected victim of Rose’s husband Fred – found what they think maybe bits of blue clothing.

Mary had been wearing a blue coat, blue and white dress and had a blue handbag with her when she was last seen in January 1968, aged just 15.

A production crew working on a documentary also found a void beneath the floor in the basement of the cafe, which was formerly called the Pop-In

A cadaver dog sniffing for clues indicated there may be something inside.

It is believed evil Fred could have laid the concrete in the basement.

DCI Turner also revealed investigators had re-interviewed Fred’s son, Stephen, who claimed his dad confessed to killing Mary before taking his own life.

The Gloucestershire Police officer said: “We all know that Fred spoke to Stephen West just before he died but he never told him where she was buried.

“The problem we have with Fred West is he told tons of lies.

“He led us on a wild goose chase all around the country, which has been heartbreaking over years for family members, including the Bastholms.

“Fred played with investigators, he wanted to control the investigation, he enjoyed being the centre of attention and he was toying with us at times.

“My team has spoken to Stephen, just to confirm what he was told and make sure we had not missed anything.
