BBC bosses are making up for lost time during lockdown with 86 dramas now being produced – totalling 450 hours of television.
Announcing six new shows yesterday, drama chief Piers Wenger said he is still buoyed by Line of Duty becoming the most popular drama of the century with 15.24million tuning into the finale.
And his department is also boosted by 30 Bafta nods for hits Small Axe, Normal People and I May Destroy You.
He said this proved the BBC remained the best place for quality drama despite Amazon’s and Netflix’s mega-budgets.
