Time The Left Woke Up And New Channel Is Its Chance

Pitched as an alternative to the likes of Sky and BBC News, the latest brainchild of veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil could be a storm in a teacup – or hit Britain’s media landscape like a force 5 hurricane.

But what will it offer that we don’t already have?

Well, we’ve been promised an apparently long overdue “war on woke”.

Woke, of course, meaning something slightly different to everyone who is familiar with the term.

Neil is zeroing in on this poorly defined “wokeness” not because he is especially interested in the contours of the various debates arising from the term, but because it’s a culture war lightning rod that makes for great clickbait in the battle for monetizable engagement.

On Neil’s end of the political spectrum, “woke” is just another way of saying “the left”.

It is here the opportunity lies as the left has a chance to define itself from the popular caricature which has all but engulfed its message.
