Judge Lewis A Kaplan was holding a video conference today to hear arguments from the prince’s lawyers that a 2009 settlement between his accuser, Virginia Giuffre, and the late child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein also rules out any potential litigation against Andrew.
The $500,000 12-page deal — published yesterday for the first time — says that Ms Giuffre agrees to “release, acquit, satisfy, and forever discharge” Epstein and “any other person or entity who could have been included as a potential defendant” from any further claim.
The prince’s lawyer Andrew B Brettler has already told the New York court — where Ms Giuffre is now pursuing a legal claim for sexual assault against the Duke of York — that the deal prevents any action against him and that the new litigation should be halted.
