Officers believe Frank R James, 62, rented a van that could be connected to yesterday’s attack. The violence started shortly before 8.30am local time when a gunman in a gas mask and construction vest set off two smoke grenades and fired dozens of rounds in a train that had pulled into 36th Street station in Brooklyn.
At least 10 people were shot inside the smoke-filled carriage. Five were in a critical condition but were expected to survive. Another 13 people “suffered injuries related to smoke inhalation, falling down or a panic attack”, according to chief of detectives James Essig.
