Plenty Of Scope To Arrest Garda Gender Imbalance: McEntee

The Justice Minister has said there is “clearly plenty” of scope to improve gender balance within An Garda Siochana as figures reveal just 27% of the workforce are women.

Helen McEntee added she has “no direct role” in such matters but supports Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in efforts to “strengthen and diversify” the force in all areas.

Ms McEntee said: “I am informed by the Commissioner that the total number of women in all ranks of An Garda Siochana as at September 30, 2020 – the latest date for which figures are currently available – was 3,998 or approximately 27% of the total strength of 14,593.
