OLD black and white pictures of Ireland have been given a new lease of life after being turned into colour and catalogued in a new book.
The Colour of Ireland: County by County 1850-1950 includes more than 120 beautiful photos which bring the people and places of Ireland's history to life in vibrant detail.
Author Rob Cross, who used contemporary photographs as the basis for full-colour digital renditions, counts Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds and Irish director Lenny Abrahamson as fans of his work.
Painstakingly researched, Rob said the new book provides a unique social account of Ireland, bringing history to life in a level of detail never seen before, with many previously unpublished photographs.
Rob told the Irish Sunday Mirror: "What I find is that when I work on these photos, people tend to forget that I actually go and restore the photographs, if there are any cracks or dirt.
