I CAN’T help but think of David Brent from The Office whenever Leo Varadkar is mentioned.

Varadkar The David Brent Of Politics...

Ricky Gervais’ gaffe-prone character had a desperate need to be universally adored, just like the Tanaiste.

For someone who considers himself media-savvy, Varadkar has a propensity for putting his foot in it.

There have been some toe curling episodes to rival the cringe-worthy BBC sitcom – such as the childish fan letter to Kyle Minogue.

Then Varadkar rubbed the public’s nose in it with those bare-chested snaps of himself in the Phoenix Park.

You’d need to be a sadist to Google yourself if you were in his shoes.

But he only has himself to blame for the unflattering monikers such as “Leo The Leak”, along with some unprintable ones.

Twitter-friendly Varadkar was bleating on again mid-week about social media.

The FG leader said he is now “afraid” online abuse targeting politicians “will end in violence”.

In fairness, his comment follows some disgusting and sinister graffiti with death threats directed at him on a Belfast wall.
