Wright to be angry over soft sentence

I ADMIRE former Arsenal player Ian Wright for going the extra mile to help kick racism into touch.
Wright to be angry over soft sentence

It was a brave decision to pursue a criminal case against the Irish youth who had subjected him to a tirade of threatening message on social media.

The Match of the Day TV pundit should be not have been left feeling “emotional and shook-up” in this day and age all because of some angry teenager’s stupidity.

It would not have been easy for him to have this case hanging over his head for nearly two years.

It makes no sense how 18-year old Patrick O’Brien only received the Probation Act for sending racist messages.

Anybody can make a single mistake in the heat of the moment – but that argument doesn’t wash with the young Kerryman who sent 20 abusive messages to Mr. Wright on Instagram in May 2019.

FORGIVENESS Ian Wright

Mr. Wright – er, rightly – wanted to send a clear and loud message

that there should be “consequences for acts of racism”.

So, your heart has to go out to him because the avoidance of a criminal conviction on record must’ve felt like a slap in the face.

I doubt he ever would’ve pursued it if there had been any likelihood of the judge throwing away the key.
