‘Country need not ape West'

THE Indian military does not need to follow the western model for joint theatre commands and can have its own mechanism for a tri-service command system that allows the Army, Navy and Air Force to work under one umbrella, the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, said on Wednesday.

After getting a tri-service guard of honour, Rawat spoke about his vision for triservice synergy. He said that as CDS, he along with the three services will strive to set up the first joint theatre command in three years, as is his mandate.
