Court: Nirbhaya Convicts Will Be Hanged On March 3

The Patiala house court on Monday issued a fresh death warrant for the Nirbhaya case convicts, with the execution now scheduled for March 3.

Additional Session Judge Dharmender Rana issued fresh warrants against death row convicts — Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Kumar Sharma (26) & Akshay Kumar (31).

This is the third time that death warrants have been issued against them. Execution warrants were earlier issued for January 22, then postponed to February 1. The court on January 31 had stayed the operation of the warrants “till further orders” since the four convicts had “not yet exhausted all legal remedies”.

While the fresh warrants have been issued, there may be another adjournment of the execution, as one of the convicts — Pawan Gupta — is likely to move a curative plea before the Supreme Court.
