NEW DELHI: The Centre has finally decided to open vaccination for all above 18 years from May 1 as it announced its liberalised and accelerated Phase 3 strategy of Covid-19 vaccination on Monday.
The decision in this regard was taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the day when the country reported its highest daily infections at 2,73,810 with 1,619 deaths, and a day after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wrote a letter to the incumbent PM suggesting an increase in vaccination coverage by lowering the age for inoculation.
The announcement came after a meeting chaired by Modi where it was noted that the “government has been working hard for over a year to ensure that maximum numbers of Indians are able to get the vaccine in the shortest possible time.”
At the meeting, the Prime Minister reportedly said “India is vaccinating people at world record pace and we will continue this with even greater momentum.”
