Desperate scramble for jobs and it's only going to get worse

NEARLY 1,000 people applied for one job vacancy to become a waiter, only for the position to vanish with the 10pm curfew, a documentary reveals.

Desperate applicants included a flight attendant, a hotel manager, a ticket inspector and a cruise ship manager, all out of work as a consequence of Covid-19.

Their stories come in a Channel 4 Dispatches documentary revealing the human toll of the jobs crisis.

By Christmas the pandemic is expected to have cost up to two million people their jobs.

The documentary also found two-thirds of applicants on Indeed – the largest jobs website – now feel “worried and hopeless”. The same number anticipate taking a pay cut if they do find a job, and two-fifths have not had a single interview for a job.
