INDUSTRY'S LACK OF DRIVERS ‘LEAVING FRIGHTENED PEOPLE STRANDED AT NIGHT'

Cab firm helping women stay safe amid trade crisis

A PLYMOUTH taxi company which claims to have received countless calls from distressed and frightened' people has spoken up about the measures it goes to, to make women feel safe.

Easy Cars is a family-run company, run by Darren Burton, his wife Sandra Burton, and their sons Ben Wildman and Taylor Burton.

The firm says it continued taking pre-bookings on weekends after Covid restrictions eased earlier this year, something not many other firms offered.

Ben Wildman, Director of Easy Cars, said this was due to an increasing number of calls from distressed and frightened people particularly women - some of whom had become stranded after a night out. The firm believes its move to continue taking weekend prebookings meant people booking a cab with them could have 'peace of mind' and a 'sense of security' when heading out for the night.

It comes after Plymouth City Council launched a public consultation on November 25, in a bid to get more people to join the city's taxi trade and encourage operators to go greener.
