873 cases booked against motorists between June 1 and 4 as part of initiative
Continuing the drive against traffic violations, the Chennai traffic police have booked 873 cases against motorists for violating various norms in the city between June 1 and 4. A total of 286 licences have been forwarded to the Transport Department for suspension in the last few days.
The traffic police started a special drive since June 1 to nab traffic violators, especially those driving rashly on arterial roads, endangering the lives of pedestrians. While 188 cases were booked for rash driving and overspeeding, 107 were registered for drunken driving and 37 for triple-riding cases. A total of 541 cases have been booked against persons for not wearing helmets.
