Economy Saw ‘Andh Kaal' In UPA Era: FM In Parl Debate

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday launched an attack on Congress and its management of the economy during the UPA regime terming it “Andh Kaal” (dark) and listed the measures unveiled by the NDA governnment to repair the economy and prepare it for the next 25 years against the backdrop of a ‘once in a century crisis’— the Covid-19 pandemic.

New Delhi: “There was double-digit inflation in CPI (consumer price index) that affected the common man; there was widespread corruption, when every day you heard of a new scam: be it the coal scam, the antriksh (spectrum) scam, the 2G scam..,” the FM said in her reply to the debate on Union Budget in Lok Sabha and referred to the policy paralysis that had set in during the UPA years.

Responding to the opposition charges of large-scale unemployment in the country, the FM said the PM’s Mudra Yojana alone resulted in creation of 1.2 crore additional employment since its launch in 2015.
