Based on a complaint from the student, who is a resident of Mailardevpally in the city, police registered a case against five students and launched an investigation. Taking a serious view of the incident, health minister T Harish Rao asked director of medical education (DME) Dr K Ramesh Reddy to enquire into the incident and take suitable action based on the findings.
“We have booked cases under various sections of the Anti-Ragging Act and are investigating the allegations,” DSP, Suryapet, S Mohan Kumar said. He said more students were allegedly involved in the ragging incident though cases were registered against five students.
The student told cops that he was confined to a room for several hours and the seniors also allegedly tried to tonsure his head with a beard trimmer at the men’s hostel in the Government Medical College. They also videographed him. He alleged that he was made to strip and also repeat the details of all his family members.
