ED quizzes Channi for 6 hrs in Punjab sand mining case

Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi on Wednesday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED)'s Jalandhar office after missing a couple of previous summonses issued by the agency in connection with the money laundering investigation in alleged illegal sand mining activities in the state.

Channi is under scrutiny after Rs 10 crore of unaccounted cash (black money) was recovered from the premises of his nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey, barely a month before the assembly elections in the state. The ED later told a special court during hearing of the case that Honey and his associates were also behind a racket of transfer-postings of bureaucrats in the state in which they had received huge payoffs.
