In Thane, Another Transfer At Top As Cases Grow Five-Fold In Month

Thane: Following a rapid spike in Covid-19 cases over the past few weeks, the Thane Municipal Corporation has now set its eyes on checking the virus spread here over the next fortnight by intensifying contact tracing and heightened surveillance.

Municipal commissioner Vijay Singhal, who was shunted out late on Tuesday as Covid cases kept rising and neared the 6,500 mark while deaths rose to 217, said he had strategised plans to slow down the infection rate.

It is learnt that the rising numbers here had irked the state bosses as numbers saw a near five-fold increase last month, including those in the areas considered the dominion of the two cabinet ministers from here. The recent visit of chief secretary Ajoy Mehta to the city, where he is learnt to have given an earful to the administration, is also seen as a warning that was conveniently ignored.
