Mumbai: This positive outlook comes from the state’s technical adviser Dr Subhash Salunkhe whose calculations are based on news about Omicron coming out of South Africa over the past two weeks. “One need not be too worried at the moment because it seems to be mild. It is definitely more transmissible, but it is not causing a severe disease,” said Dr Salunkhe, who was previously the state director general of health and an adviser to the WHO.
“In the coming months, one may actually be happy that Omicron emerged. Instead of putting restrictions in place, governments should insist on people following Covid-appropriate behaviour,” he told TOI.
