Mumbai: Masks were discarded by many and social distancing became redundant as Mumbaikars celebrated the Maharashtrian New Year of Gudi Padwa and the onset of the holy month of Ramzan.
Long queues stretched outside Mumbadevi temple. Manager Hemant Jadhav estimated that 25,000 devotees had arrived by afternoon.
“They smiled in happiness because they were able to bring offerings of prasad, saris, coconuts, flowers or sweets which were previously banned. We have also resumed providing sherbet and water. We expect 60,000 worshippers to arrive on Sunday. Devotees are not wearing masks but our volunteers continue to do so,” Jadhav said.
