Residents & sports buffs protest ‘gravel mud track' at Shivaji Park

Local residents, sports administrators and MNS have opposed the BMC’s plan to construct a gravel-based ‘mud track’ in the middle of Dadar’s Shivaji Park. Residents have said the BMC is planning to lay a mud track on the iconic playground with stone gravel, which will disperse all over the ground once the top surface gets eroded with wear and tear.

Mumbai: Mayor Kishori Pednekar visited Shivaji Park on Monday along with BMC officials to address residents’ concerns. MNS chief Raj Thackeray, a local resident, also met BMC officials on Sunday and opposed the gravel track. Ajinkya Naik, apex council member of Mumbai Cricket Association, also took up the issue with the MCA president.

“On first instinct, it looks like a road dividing the ground into two parts. We as MCA should inquire with concerned authorities and also we should write about our concerns if it happens. Shivaji Park has a rich cricketing history and in near future, our cricketers who play regularly at Shivaji Park will find it difficult to play the game,” Naik said in his letter.
