The straightforward note released on Saturday said,“ To all our well wishers. After much deliberation and thought Chay and I have decided to part ways as husband and wife to pursue our own paths...”

This announcement confirmed rumours that had been doing the rounds for months that the couple was heading for a divorce. Within minutes, the comments section of Samantha’s page was flooded with broken-heart emojis and cries of “No....” “Tell us it’s not true”, coming in from heartbroken fans. After all, ChaySam, as they were fondly called, were the epitome of #couplegoals for the millions of young people who followed their lives and tracked their love story over the years.
