A C-Section? Why?

Admit it — you don’t think you need to read this article, do you? You are healthy and so far your pregnancy has been problem free. Why would the thought of a C-section even cross your mind? Chances are about three in four, you’ll never need the information— but if you do develop an unforeseen complication or your labour runs into a roadblock, doctor might say that your baby needs to be delivered by C-section. Surgical procedure for birth is recommended when vaginal birth poses a risk to you and your baby. The most common type of surgery, a C-section operation is the delivery of a baby through a surgical incision in the your abdomen and uterus while you are under anesthesia. At times, the need for it isn’t obvious until you are well into labour. Following are the five situations when your doctor might recommend an intervention:

1 YOUR LABOUR STALLS

What?

Labour is unpredictable. There is no way of knowing in advance when labour will begin, how long it will last, or how it will feel. Sometimes it can stop too. Failure to progress during birthing can be diagnosed when you are in active labour and your labour slows down or stops. Reasons for the stall can include a slowing down of contractions, contractions without dilation, or the baby not descending, despite contractions.
