While the IPL fever swept through the rest of the country, for seven months now, sustainability consultant Lara Sinha, and her cricket commentator husband Jatin Sapru have been occupied with a different kind of fever — baby fever!
A shared love for sports brought cricket commentator Jatin Sapru and former TV journalist-turned sustainability consultant Lara Sinha together. While the two of them grew up in Delhi, Jatin’s work brought them to Mumbai four years ago. The duo were almost always on the move, and enjoyed their travels together, and independently for work. Starting a family didn’t quite come into the picture, but little did they know, 2018 had a different kind of adventure awaiting them!
Having a baby was something Lara always remained conflicted about, and often questioned giving up the independence they so enjoyed as a couple. But after much thought, last year, she realised that it would be nice to have one child at least. It also helped that hubby Jatin was always clear about wanting children. “We took the rational decision that if we were going to have a child, it would be better to do so when we were relatively young. We were also told by everyone around us that it could take months to conceive. So we started trying at the end of 2017 assuming it would take at least six months,” says Lara. But, as it turns out, it only took two!
Her career required her to jet off to multiple locations, and she had just returned from a work trip to Europe when she had quite the homecoming! When a home pregnancy test turned out positive, Lara says the feeling was surreal. “I didn’t quite know what to think. My immediate reaction was ‘now what?’ One never really thinks about what to do next in this sort of situation. It took a while for things to sink in and it was only after the visit to the gynae that we allowed ourselves to think about the future,” she tells us.
