The advent of the unfortunate global pandemic, we are currently facing, has somehow realigned my perspective towards technology as opposed to nature. COVID-19 has clearly pointed out the major imbalances in our lives. Within just a few days of everything being locked down, there was a paradigm shift in the environment. City pollution levels dropped and we could breathe cleaner air. Some even argued that the ozone layer started healing. However, we were still caged behind protective masks, unable to enjoy a better natural habitat—a harsh reminder of how nature is still the strongest force.
Milk is considered one of the most important foods for our growing li’l ones. We have all seen advertisements about milk being the secret of a tall, intelligent, and strong child. And perhaps there is a lot of virtue in this belief. However, the world we live in has changed dramatically. We cannot ignore the possibility of adulteration, cruelty against animals or the impact of our food decisions on the future of this planet, anymore. Our food decisions are the easiest and most impactful way of protecting both, our own health and well as the health of our home.
This also seems to be the driving force behind people switching to a vegan lifestyle. With this shift in eating preference come certain considerations that are essential, especially for mums and dads. Preventing nutritional deficiencies or ensuring optimal growth is really the only concern parents have when they discontinue dairy for their children. The four key nutrients that go amiss the minute we remove dairy are calcium, protein, vitamin D and phosphorus. Out of these, protein and calcium are two nutrients that need utmost attention especially in growing kids.
