When 33 year-old Ruchi Rathod, managing director at Cello, was met with multiple bumps in her conception journey, she did not let that deter her from the end goal. Despite her setbacks, the now mum of two fought through her lows to the best of her abilities. In a heart-to-heart with M&B, she reveals how a little bit of gumption and a whole lot of affirmation worked not one, but two little wonders for her…
“Gaurav and I met through a family connection back in 2012. At that time, the two of us were very reluctant to get married because we were young and had dreams of our own. But our families were adamant that we give each other a chance to connect, and what do you know, we got engaged soon after. Lucky for me, Gaurav is just as ambitious as I am, so we enrolled for higher studies in the UK post our engagement. A year later, we returned to India and decided it was time to get married.
“We dreamed of travelling the world and exploring new places together, so having babies was certainly not part of our plan then. Of course, we wanted to be parents, but that was a plan for a later day. So after we saw the world like we wanted to, and chased our dreams to the best of our abilities, we began talking about building our family. As fate would have it, an internal complication led me to undergo an open abdominal surgery, due to which my doctors recommended that we delay our baby planning till I was fully healed and medically fit to carry a baby. Was I disheartened? Of course, but I knew that our chapter as parents wasn’t too far away.
