Bookworms unite! Here are some tips on fostering a love of reading from ages two and up.
Reading is one of the most important skills that children learn throughout their growing up years. Not only will it help develop their brain, but it will also help them to become fully functioning adults with the world as their oyster later in life. Reading is a fundamental skill that helps us as humans to communicate. Reading to children from a very early age will help them to develop a distinct tie to the language you speak in the home.
Children are keen observers and from a young age, they will try to communicate and make sense of the world. By narrating your day and movements, and speaking to the child in your chosen language, you will help them begin to make verbal connections. In addition, it introduces them to the way in which you read, that is, from left to right. This is important as they will need to understand how to read when they begin to learn the basics of forming the words for themselves.
Growing the Skills
Reading to children and helping them read can expose them to different types of vocabulary and different topics. The words you choose to use every day can sometimes become limited and repetitive after a while, so reading books can help your kids see and use different types of words in different ways. This will help them expand their knowledge and develop intelligence and understanding of various topics.
