Tips To Be On Top Of The Clutter
Parents World|Issue 73

You don’t need to be a pack-rat to employ these tips to be on top of the clutter.

Tips To Be On Top Of The Clutter

The idea of living a simplified, uncluttered life with less stuff has been an attractive prospect to many long before Marie Kondo swept us off (pun intended) with the life-changing magic of KonMari. Living with less brings forth many benefits – less to clean, less debt, less to organise, and less stress, amongst others. As Kondo said, “To truly cherish the things that are important to you, you must first discard those that have outlived their purpose.” Decluttering your home goes beyond ridding yourself of possessions and living a life of radical minimalism; it also means freeing up the physical and mental space to make room for the people and things in life that matter.

When our space feels put together, we in turn feel more tranquil. Research has shown that women who described their homes as cluttered and stressful were more depressed than those who described them as restorative spaces, while other studies have made the link between physical clutter with high levels of stress and poor health. The bottom line? A tidy house is good for you.
