JAMIE JOHNSON
Le Petit CIRQUE
''In 2019 I was in England, France, Ireland, Italy, Beijing, Taipei, Bali, and Mongolia. My work as a photographer takes me around the globe and back. I also have a commercial photography business in California. My specialty is photographing children of the world, documentary, and fine art. In Feb 2020, I was in Germany printing my first monograph, Growing Up Travelling, with Kehrer Verlag. As I got to the airport to return to California, it was the first I heard about the Covid-19. They took my temperature and asked if I had been to Beijing in the last month. I was there in October, I told them.
Shortly after I returned home, the world started closing. All of my scheduled book signings were one by one canceled. The commercial bookings I had from March thru Sept, one by one canceled. I stayed inside with my 14-year-old daughter... March, April, May, June, July....it was the longest I had ever gone without taking photos.
Enjoying the downtime and my deep dive into Netflix, I was also in need of some artistic inspiration.
Like a miracle, I was referred by a friend to an amazing children's circus, right here in Los Angeles! If you don't know me, all of my work is about children.
