Design & Build Quality
The Samsung T7 Touch is slightly larger than a credit card at 85 x 57 x 8.0 mm if you ignore the thickness. It weighs only 58 g and can easily fit in your shirt or trouser pocket, but it can also easily get lost. An aluminium unibody with a matte finish and a subtle Samsung wording provide a nice feel. The drive has a square fingerprint sensor and a standard USB Type-C port.
Key Features
The T7 Touch is built for speed and convenience. The embedded PCIe NVMe SSD provides theoretical read/ write speeds of up to 1050 and 1000 MB per second, respectively. The USB 3.2 Gen2 interface further aids in this massive transfer speed. It is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 interface, but will operate at a reduced speed.
Traditionally, large capacity external storage devices have used mechanical hard drives which are susceptible to physical wear and damage due to the moving parts. A Solid State Drive on the other hand uses semiconductor based flash memory, which is free of any moving part and hence not susceptible to physical damage in normal use. Also, the absence of moving parts makes it draw very low power compared to hard drives, and hence you do not need to supply additional power even to use it with a smartphone. A sturdy metal body ensures that the internal elements are protected from a reasonable amount of shock, up to two metres in the case of the T7 Touch. Furthermore, Samsung extends a 3-year limited warranty on the product.
