Ever since the dawn of time, man has looked up at the sky and wished he could soar amongst the birds. Aery, an indie game developed by EpiXR Games, grants the player the gift of avian flight in an attempt to create a peaceful and relaxing experience.
You play as Little Bird, a feathered friend who dreams of freedom and exploration. Aery is built around a simple task: Little Bird must explore nine expansive levels and collect the white feathers strewn throughout them. Evoking other relaxing indie games such as ABZÛ and Journey, Aery is focused on delivering a serene experience rather than intense setpieces or an immersive story.
Instead, gameplay revolves around flying through each level at your own pace, exploring sunbathed desert islands and looming mountainous peaks. In order to progress to further levels, all of a given map’s feathers must be collected. It’s a straightforward mission, designed to make sure you cover the full expanse of each level, taking in the sights and relishing the scenery.
