Small Is Big

It is always the small pieces that make the big picture, right?

There is small chivalry which could mean big in gaining relationships and also nurturing new ones. Many a times in a business situation we concentrate on larger issues like structured finance, leverage, the brand, and have so less time to see 'small' which can become 'big'. Sometimes 'small' can become bigger than 'big'.

Small becomes big only when the intention is not to make it big, and it is done with a joy of doing it. When these actions are done, there is no expectation, there is no transaction, it is not a deal maker, it is just a heart saying to another 'let's create life'. The small becomes big when it emanates from the heart and not from the mind. The small becomes large when it is done without expectation, but as a nature to do. A rose does not smell good, so that it remains a rose, it smells good because it's the nature of it to do so.

Let me try to articulate a few examples in which 'small' changed its spelling to 'big'.

A vendor for life…

We had a vendor who helps in electrical maintenance at office, a good entrepreneur, worked hard all through his life to create a niche for himself. He had been rendering services for our entity for decades. A recent event etched deep in my heart. Our Admin. Manager was negotiating hard with this longtime vendor, and they were really pushing hard to the last pennies. The CEO observed this and casually mentioned that the vendor should come over to the office at 6:30 p.m.

As the vendor entered, there was a decent gathering and it was an occasion of the entity. The vendor sheepishly occupied a chair at the gesture of the CEO and had no clue as to why he was in this gathering.
