I’m writing this article straight after the Midland Game Fair and I can honestly say it was a resounding success. As always, I have great guys around me for support and straight after the British Shooting Show back in February, planning was underway on how to make our next event even more awesome. We opted for a mixture of Daleks and Terminators as the theme and we had a few meetings. The first meeting turned into an HFT shooting day, but for our final meeting we invited UK Umarex representative, Bevin Lesueur, and went through our range proposal, which included a list of airguns required, along with our own Umarex airguns. The range layout comprised two pistol booths with railed pulleys set to six yards and using a mix of paper targets; five rifle booths to be set at different heights for sitting or standing, and a free-standing area for the eight-shot Illuminator targets. Bevin was really happy with our plans.
The targets and booths were made by Mark and Paul from www.Air-Targets.com, and brand-new Terminator targets were ready to be unveiled at the MGF they looked awesome in the photo, and I couldn’t wait see them ‘in the metal’, so to speak.
FRIDAY SET-UP
I arranged to get on-site at about 7 am, to meet up with Jef, who was camping on the grounds. I had all the tickets and passes and after handing them out to the guys, we set about unloading. It was still early so none of the hay bales had been put out, but we noticed a hay-trailer at the back of the ranges, so we unloaded our own trailer, and Mark climbed on top of the bales to throw down a first batch of 45, and another batch of 15.
Now it was my turn to do some physical labour. I made holes in the ground for three stakes, using a long metal spike and a pounder to drive the stakes in. It nearly killed me, and just proves how unfit I am. Jef even had to help me take the pounder off the stake. How embarrassing!
