‘Josh is just a really good leader for us'

Q: You’ve had quite a bit of success with the screen game this year. What do you think has led to so much improvement in that area?

BD: We put a lot of time into it in the offseason on Zoom calls — myself, along with all of the assistant coaches. We really went back and studied our stuff and studied the league and just really tried to tighten up all the coaching details that we could. And then we presented it to the players in the offseason. And then when we got here, that’s one of the things we presented to them as we did the running game too and really tried to fine tune it. The screen game, when you go back and study it, which we did, it’s a hit or miss thing. There’s some really good ones and there’s some where, whether the (defense plays) it or a guy slips off ... but it’s something that you need offensively. It helps against good pass rush teams and we’re a throwing team so that helps. It’s something that we did a lot of work on. Studied it a lot, had a lot of good conversations with the coaches and that’s something we need to try to continue to work on and get better at.

Q: Why did that work look like as far as going over it with the coaches over on Zoom and then relaying it to the players?

QUARTERBACKS: TOP AVAILABLE FREE AGENTS

Dak Prescott, Cowboys 6-2 • 235 pounds • 27 years old A solid starter who has a nice TD-INT ratio over his first five seasons (104-40), Prescott is an accurate thrower and very mobile. However, he’s coming off a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle, so it remains to be seen if this will impact his game moving forward.

Hunter Henry, Chargers 6-5 • 250 pounds • 29 years old A very talented player, Henry has had issues staying healthy, unable to complete an NFL season, including missing the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL. But when healthy, he’s a terrific all-around tight end who really connected with Justin Herbert in 2020 with 60 catches. Henry is very good at finding holes in zone coverage.
