The 32-year-old, from neighbouring Preston, proved too strong for his rivals as he led out the sprint from a small leading group and held on for victory after a gruelling 100 miles of racing.
However, the race had looked to be heading in a different direction as a breakaway of John Archibald (Ribble Pro Cycling), Ed Bradbury (Memil Pro Cycling) and Cameron Jeffers (Saint Piran) built a lead of almost three minutes with 30 miles remaining.
