Next stop Yorkshire for Tour runner-up
Geraint Thomas looks set to take a shot at the World Championship time trial in Yorkshire next month after finishing second at the Tour de France.
Perhaps unsurprisingly the second half of Thomas’s season will only be finalised in the coming weeks now the Tour has ended and talk of riding the Vuelta a España was brushed aside.
He will take a break for a few weeks before resuming training with a view to his next goal. “I just want to go to Paris and enjoy the downtime,” was all he would say after the Tour’s final mountain stage to Val Thorens.
Ineos team boss Dave Brailsford said: “The Worlds is going to be a great opportunity for him, if he can come down a bit and build up again towards the Worlds. I think the course suits him and he will be competitive.”
The 54km Yorkshire course has little flat, racking up over 700m of climbing. Thomas has never ridden the Worlds time trial before but he was the British TT champion in 2018.
