Celtic are looking to book their place in last season’s Scottish Cup final with victory over Aberdeen at Hampden this weekend

Back To The Future

Celtic head to Hampden this weekend for a Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Aberdeen. It’s not the first time the sides have met at this stage of the competition, but this game is unique in that it is the semi-final of the 2019/20 competition, being played at the beginning of November, with the 2020/21 season already up and running.

Last season’s Scottish Cup was, of course, put on hold with the postponement of Scottish football in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, with the semi-finals still to be played.

As well as Celtic’s clash with Aberdeen, there is also an Edinburgh derby in the other semi-final, which is being played on Saturday, 24 hours before the cup holders are in action.

Celtic have won the Scottish Cup for the past three season as part of their Treble Treble success, and to retain the trophy again would see Neil Lennon’s side become the first team in Scottish football history to win it four years in a row.

Standing between Celtic and a place in the Hampden final on December 20 are Derek McInnes’ side, and last Sunday saw the sides meet on league duty at Pittodrie, a game that finished 3-3.

Ahead of the Hampden encounter this Sunday, we take a look at five previous Scottish Cup semi-final meetings between the sides, starting with the most recent clash.
