Daniel Church is delighted with the changes to the reserve league this term.

DEVELOPMENT is the principle purpose of the Celtic Reserve side and for Daniel Church this season is proving to be hugely productive.

The young Celts are seeing the benefits of higher quality competition following changes to the SPFL league and, with Brendan Rodgers and his first-team staff looking on closely, the opportunity to break into the top team has never been greater.

Church spoke to the Celtic View about how the season has been progressing.

How has the season been so far with the changes to the league?

The reserve league is a lot closer to first-team football now because the majority of teams we’re playing have at least three or four first-team players in them. It’s no longer a case of us playing against the same age group, it’s a step above that because we’re playing against senior players.

What’s the current form of the team?

We’ve been playing well. We played Falkirk recently and won 4-1. They fielded a really experienced team, but we had some experienced players in our side too with the likes of Scott Allan, Dorus de Vries and Marvin Compper. That was good because the majority of the Falkirk team were senior players. To have that experience in our team gives the rest of us a boost. Scott Allan was great with us, taking the lead and talking some of the younger players through the game.

How is playing with, and against, more experienced players impacting on your development?
