Rachel Donaldson Hitting The Target

AFTER a confident 3-1 derby win and a staggering 16-0 Scottish Cup victory over West Park, the Celtic Women’s team lost to league-leaders Glasgow City by the slimmest of margins.

The 1-0 defeat was a sore one for Eddie Black’s side, given the quality of their own performance, but they duly bounced back with a comfortable 2-0 win over St Johnstone in the cup, and a 4-0 win at the weekend over Stirling University.

With Glasgow City still to visit Lennoxtown before the end of the campaign, and with a UEFA Champions League spot still up for grabs, the Hoops’ Rachel Donaldson targets maximum points between now and the end of the season – and thinks she and her team-mates can also lift the Scottish Cup.

This week’s Celtic View caught up with Donaldson ahead of a cluster of important fixtures.

Celtic have really stepped up their game this season, so how have things been for you?

Things have been great, we’ve been working hard both on and off the pitch. We’ve worked really hard recently – a lot of shaping work, moulding ourselves into certain systems and applying that on matchday. Whereas before, there might have been more focus on technical ability, we’re always trying to work hard on the training pitch in order to improve in games. We put loads of pressure on ourselves as well. We’ve got the final stretch of the league campaign ahead, and we’re fully focused on the cups. We want to bring home silverware and that’s our target. We can only do that if we’re constantly getting the results we want.

There’s competition for places in the squad. How does that drive you?
