Stephen Welsh is hoping to help the Reserves finish the season with a double triumph.

Silver Lining

STEPHEN Welsh has enjoyed another excellent year of development in the Celtic Reserve side, and the 19-year-old is looking to finish the season strong with some silverware.

The young Hoops are closing in on the targets laid out at the start of the season, with the league title almost within reach and a Glasgow Cup final to look forward to.

For Welsh, the double would constitute a successful season and help strengthen his bid to break into Neil Lennon’s first-team.

A win over Ross County last week helped Celtic go back on top in the league. How was the game?

It’s a tough place to go, especially with the travel and having to get up really early in the morning. That can be daunting when you have to do all that travel and then perform at your best. Ross County made it hard for us and it was a battle for the whole game. In the first half we played great football. In the second half we started really slow and we had to dig in deep to get the result. It was a disappointing result the previous week against St Mirren because we knew we should have won. When we went 3-1 ahead against Ross County we all had that result in the back of our minds and it just made us all the more determined to make sure it didn’t happen again. When you have a lead and end up drawing it can feel like a loss. We definitely played a lot better this week and we got the three points because of that.

How does it feel to have scored the opening goal that game?
