Billy Stark may have joined Celtic late in his career but he was still at his best and played a key part in the club’s iconic centenary season

The Twilight Zone

BILLY Stark signed for Celtic at the start of the club’s centenary season. At the age of 30, he may have been slightly older than some of his team-mates, but his experience helped him make an immediate impact in the Hoops.

His footballing intelligence, coupled with talent, meant he quickly won the hearts of Celtic supporters. The affection fans felt for Stark was cemented when he scored the winner in his first game against Rangers, an achievement which proved crucial in helping Billy McNeill’s side build momentum towards the double success of the centenary season.
