Ben Stokes recently turned 29 and there can be little doubt that he is England’s leading player. As an all-rounder, he is a worthy successor to Ian Botham and with a better record than Andrew Flintoff. On overall performances, on heroic deeds with bat and ball and on dynamism and sheer force of a larger than life personality the Christchurch-born cricketer is a major boon for English cricket. Last year was clearly his annus mirabilis but over the years Stokes has produced eye rubbing and mind-boggling feats across the formats. Indeed ever since his international debut in 2011, he has clearly been a star who has evolved into a superstar.
