It would appear that if the International Cricket Council (ICC) had any designs other than the situation in which it finds itself out of the loop, those plans have been hit for a toss. With reports now of the Cricket Australia’s stance of not wanting to host the forthcoming edition of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup and instead trade hosting rights with India, can the ICC come out of this not looking more diminished?
On the sidelines of the ICC conference, even before the conference could get underway in a formal way, the side discussions have had details leaked either unintentionally or with deliberate intent to influence. While speculation has been rife – to which the ICC refuted as being untrue – about the reluctance of the Cricket Australia to host the 2020 ICC Twenty20 World Cup slated for October this year citing logistics and more keen on India’s tour instead, in another damning scenario for the ICC, it has been revealed that the Cricket Australia chairman, Earl Eddings, wrote a letter to the ICC explicitly stating its unwillingness to host this edition and instead of wanting to host the 2021 ICC Twenty20 World originally accorded to India.
