Ambati Rayudu’s dream of representing India in the ICC World Cup 2019 was quashed after the BCCI announced the 15-member squad on Monday. Rayudu was a big omission from the team and there has been a lot of debate surrounding his exclusion. The veteran right-handed batsman will feel hard done by the selectors months after skipper Virat Kohli had stated that Rayudu is their main number four in batting.
Rayudu alongside Navdeep Saini and Rishabh Pant have been named as standbys for the World Cup.
It all changed in a matter of one series for Rayudu. Up till the ODIs against New Zealand earlier this year, Rayudu looked a certain deal. He was the leading candidate to represent the team and bat at number four. But a failure in three successive ODI against Australia last month changed the notion of the selectors, who omitted him from the squad. The debate on Rayudu lingered on and there were mixed views on his presence in the team.
